Lime Crime - First Impressions

Like many of you, I am brand new to the wonderful world of Lime Crime. It sucked me in immediately with it’s cute packaging, the promise of opaque makeup and the variety of quirky and eccentric colours! PLUS holographic unicorns. Need I say more? As a past member of the Unicorn Club with the president Jessica Wakefield (Sweet Valley Twins? Anyone?) I knew I had to add these to my collection.

Lime Crime is known not only for their outrageous makeup, but also their vegan friendly products, and being against animal testing, which gets a huge thumbs up from me! There has been a lot of good and bad publicity about Lime Crime. While I normally am pretty convinced by the Internet, I decided to come up with my own opinion on the brand - everyone is entitled to that!

I purchased three lipsticks and a loose eye glitter from the Lime Crime website directly. They said to expect to receive my package in four weeks, and it arrived bang on time.  When the package arrived it was almost as cute as the makeup itself! It looked like any other parcel on the outside, but when I opened it up BAM! I was greeted with fluorescent yellow crepe paper and the logo sporting from inside the box. It certainly made my Friday afternoon even more special! I kept the little sticker that was stuck to the crepe paper and I’ve put it on my notice board for a little extra cheer.

The products I purchased were three opaque lipsticks in Babette, Mint To Be and Retrofuturist. I also purchased the Zodiac Glitter in Pisces (because I am a Pisces…duh! :P ). I have to say, after using them once each, I am really quite impressed.

Babette - “A pastel coral, the pinker cousin of Coquette” - Lime Crime Website 2013.

I would describe it as a perfect peach colour. The opaqueness of the lipstick was the first thing I noticed. I did one coat, and WOW. Instant colour. The formula was creamy and not sticky or drying at all. The only issue I had was that if my lips are a little cracked, it REALLY shows.

The colour could be difficult to pull off. I am saving this one forwhen I am a little more tanned (St Tropez, here I come!) because I think it would only suit really pale or really tanned skin. My skin tone in the middle could be a little more difficult to pull off without looking washed out

Mint To Be - “Pastel mint-green” - Lime Crime Website 2013.

Well, that’s exactly what it is! I could not pass up the option to own a lipstick that is certainly inspired by my blog name (haha-hoho) so I decided I was allowed one crazy lipstick. We all need one right? I think I will definitely be using this for some fun photo shoots :)

P1090635Retrofuturist - “Bright ‘pin-up’ red. Universally flattering” - Lime Crime Website 2013.

It’s definitely bright and definitely one of my new favourite red lipsticks. I haven’t tried this one out properly though (all night long) but from the short time that I was wearing it, it didn’t smudge or feel drying. I think I will do a full review on this lipstick after a few wears.

Lipstick Stats

Price: $15.99 USD

Net Weight: 3.5g / 0.12oz

Pros

- Opaque

- Not drying

- Creamy formula

- The cutest packaging imaginable

- Expensive on US terms. For Aussies this is a relatively cheap lipstick!

Cons

- Tends to ‘settle’ into lip cracks and lines.

Zodiac Glitter in Pisces - “Periwinkle blue with a green/copper shift” - Lime Crime Website 2013.

I couldn’t pass up the chance to own my very own star sign in a glitter eye shadow. It’s like a dream come true #aimlow. Ha! I used an eye primer to a-fix the glitter and it was a little tedious to apply (as all glitter is). However, another way to use this product would be to jazz up your manicure! I think this colour would look amazing as an accent nail with a blue green set. This was more of a novelty purpose because I wanted my Zodiac sign but I am looking forward to trying it in new and different ways! :)

Glitter Stats

Price: $12.99 USD

Net Weight: 4g / 0.14 oz

Pros

- Beautiful packaging

- Cosmetic Grade Glitter - safe to use on your peepers! (still be careful though)

- an amazing colour

Cons

- difficult to use

- fall out is imminent

As for future purchases from Lime Crime, I would love to get my hands on the Velvetine Lipstick in Red Velvet, Serpentine Opaque Lipstick, and perhaps an eyeshadow palette!

Have you tried any Lime Crime products? Do you believe the hype about them or are you not sure what the hype is about?
