Bleaching Eyebrows: Bad Idea or Life Changer?
If someone ever asked if I would ever bleach my eyebrows, I would have answered with a HELL TO THE NO. I was always taught that your eyebrows were the colour that they were meant to be, and you shouldn’t mess with them.
But why not?
Technically the colour hair we were born with is meant to suit you best. What makes brows so special as to not warrant any colour change? We shape them, pluck them into oblivion and in some cases trim them down. But change the colour? You cray girl?
As you all well know, I’ve been blonde now for close to eight months, and I have loved every minute. (Well, not every minute! Bleach is mighty strong and maintenance can be a pain in the butt). But for the most part, for me, blondes do have more fun.
The only thing that has ever made me self conscious is my brows. They are wiry, long and heavens-to-Betsy they are dark. While my soft, angelic (ha!) hair was what I wanted, my powerful and dramatic brows were always a topic of conversation.
After some research of lightening brows with concealer, and other tips and tricks, I came across Miss Natty’s Beauty Diary post. I noticed her eyebrows were NOT orange, and it looked as though her eyebrows were meant to be that colour! I decided I had to give it a shot.
To say I was nervous is an understatement. I did not want to end up like Miley’s short-lived invisible brows.
I purchased Nair Face & Body Bleach from Discount Chemist Warehouse (they are my most trusted for facial waxing, so I thought that their hair bleach would be a safe bet (it was! Phew!).
It took about ten minutes for the whole process of mixing the bleach, working myself up to apply the bleach, applying, processing time and clean up. Crazy quick! And I am pretty in love with the result.
I feel like my look is softer, and not nearly as harsh and dramatic as it once was. While I am not crazy about my eyebrows without them being filled in - I never have been - once I have filled them in, I feel on top of the world. They still feel like my brows, no crazy straw like consistency or burned skin to be seen!
All in all, it was a very pleasant experience!
