Empties #4 - Skincare

If you follow me on twitter, you know that I always put off empties posts. I love reading them, and I love looking back on my past posts, so don’t get me wrong - this is for my own good. But it just feels like such a hassle to drag out all my trash :P My partner is VERY happy that I am finally doing this, so let’s get to it! I have had to split my post into two - one for skincare and one for hair, makeup, etc. Oy.

Kate Somerville Detox Daily Cleanser (reviewed here)

This is definitely one of the nicer foaming gel cleansers I have come across, and I really like the twist top lid. I would buy this again, once I have finished up all my other foaming cleansers, which may take some time!

Kate Somerville ExfoliKate (reviewed here)

I initially was not that interested in ExfoliKate, but after continued use and learning how to use it properly (as a chemical exfoliant, not a manual exfoliant) I fell in love! I have this on my wish list to repurchase again soon!

Kate Somerville Oil-Free Moisturiser (reviewed here)

This moisturiser is a light weight cream that absorbs quickly into the skin. I would easily compare this to my current favourite moisturiser, Hope in a Jar by Philosophy. Both have a souffle-like texture that I love in moisturisers. I probably wouldn’t buy this exact moisturiser again, as I would like to try out some of Kate Somerville’s other moisturisers.

Soap & Glory Clean on Me Shower Gel

This took me literally AGES to use up. Granted, it is a 500mL container, and a little goes a long way! I love Soap & Glory products, and this one will be repurchased again once I have used up other shower gels and soaps in my collection!

The Body Shop Pink Grapefruit Body Scrub

I love me a good pink grapefruit scent, especially in the summer. This scrub was not too abrasive and helped rid my legs of ingrown hairs that I am quite prone to. I am a big lover of the Body Shop scrubs, and this one was no different! I will probably pick up a different scent next time, but this one will be repurchased again for sure!

Nivea Anti-Perspirant Double Effect

I’ve gone through a few of these cans, but I only kept one. I have already repurchased this deoderant, it is definitely my favourite anti-perspirant to use! It helps soften the skin to help with a closer shave, and it doesn’t give me those unsightly ‘dark patches’ on my underarms when they are shaved!

Clean & Clear Essentials Self-Foaming Facial Wash

I used to use this foaming cleanser in high school, and basically I wanted a trip down memory lane! It was a great initial cleanse (I always do a double cleanse on my skin) and removed my makeup quite nicely. The scent took me right back to 2003 and loved it. I probably won’t repurchase this one, but it was a nice treat. Do you revisit old products from high school for nostalgia like me?

Neutrogena Rapid Clear 2-in-1 Cleanser/Mask

I picked this one up after Essiebutton mentioned it in a YouTube video. I loved using this as a 3 minute mask more than the daily wash, and it was a great way to perk up my skin during the week. I am currently using the Clearasil Vitamins & Extract Daily Wash (reviewed here) which also can be used as a face mask, so I will be using that one up before I decide which one I want to repurchase!

Savi Australia Organic Soothing Cream

Another subscription box love, I remember using this as a face moisturiser at night, and it really helped zap my nasty spots without drying out my skin entirely! My friend Kasia loves this cream too, and she has already repurchased. I am on the fence because I have so many other creams to get through, it just doesn’t make sense to buy it just yet.

L’Occotaine En Provence Shea Butter Hand Cream (reviewed here)

I am not a big hand cream person, but seriously, this one is amazing. Check out my review, linked above, where I fawn over how lovely the scent is, how non-greasy the formula is, and basically declare my love like a love-struck teen. This is on my wish list to repurchase!

Garnier Gentle Eye Makeup Remover

I wasn’t really a fan of this eye makeup remover. Despite being labeled as ‘gentle’ it stung my eyes and took some work to get my eyeliner off. I much prefer using the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water for eye makeup remover. I won’t be repurchasing this eye stinging product :(

John Plunkett Glyco Peel

I received this Glyco Peel in a subscription box, and I was so scared to try it! I remember posting on instagram saying I hope I didn’t wake up like Freddy Krueger! I needn’t have worried, it worked like a dream! The initial application had a very slight warming feel to it, and a little of this product went a long way! My skin felt quite glowy afterwards, and I have this one on my repurchase list.

Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner

Ah my beloved Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner. I really dragged this product out as long as I could! I love the scent so much and it works so well for lazy people (holla!) that don’t enjoy putting lotion on after a shower. I am currently trying out the Nivea In-Shower Body Conditioner, so I will see how they measure up - stay tuned!

Nuxe Multi-Purpose Dry Oil, Face, Body, Hair

This was so luxurious to use, and I loved using it on my face and body (not so much my hair, as it weighed it down a little). I received this one in a subscription box as well, and I am definitely interested in using more Nuxe products!

La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water (reviewed here)

I have been missing this product at the gym since I used it up. It’s a great way to cool down and a lot more dignified then pouring your water bottle over your head. I’ve also tried the Avene version of this product and both are pretty similar. I am going to repurchase this once I can get to the chemist next!

Caroll Laboratories Bump Eraser

This one was actually tested by my partner Shannon! He is always getting ingrown hairs on his chin and I offered for him to try this out, seeing as it was such a small, chin sized sample. He said it helped reduce ingrown hairs for sure, but he couldn’t be bothered applying it all the time. (Men!)

Phew! I hope you enjoyed my first part of this two-parter Empties. I am so sorry if you actually read all of this, but hopefully it was helpful!! Stay tuned for Empties #4: The Sequel tomorrow!

What products of the above have you tried, or would like to try?

  • Lena

I love that bump eraser - I always used it when I waxed and it made such a difference.

    • Kate Flint

I kind of wish I tried this one myself, but it didn’t seem feasible to get a good idea of the product with such a small sachet! I will have to pick it up a full size and give it a go. Clearly Shannon can’t be trusted with the responsibility of reviewing :P

      • Lena

Clearly he can’t be trusted with a big responsibility like that! My brother gets ingrown hairs/pimples on his face from shaving so I’ve got him using my Stridex salicylic acid pads and hopefully that’ll work for him. You’re in Australia, right? I got my bump eraser at Chemist Warehouse when I was there, they sell it much cheaper than waxing salons do.

        • Kate Flint

Yup aussie ;) I’ve seen it at Chemist Warehouse (they know me by name there, whoops!). I haven’t heard of the Stridex Salicylic acid pads.. I might need to look into them for Shannon! (I swear though, I will have to remind him daily to use them! Haha!)

          • Lena

They’re great - I get mine off Iherb. Get the ones in the red box though, the other ones aren’t the right pH for effective exfoliation

          • Christine

I have the Stridex pads and they’re fantastic! I don’t get a lot of breakouts but when I do it clears things up super fast. I also get mine from iHerb.

          • Kate Flint

It’s on my list of things to buy :) Thanks ladies!!! :)

  • Christine

Two of my holy grail items pictured there in the Glyco Peel and the Nuxe oil. I’ll repurchase these again and again unless they’re discontinued! Also love the Ro’s Argan body conditioner but don’t buy it as often as I’d like due to the cost :(

    • Kate Flint

I feel the same way about the Lush Body Conditioner. I am currently trying out the Nivea In Shower Body Cream and it’s similar, but not nearly as decadent and gorgeous as the Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner :(

  • http://www.themaquillage.com.au Angie || the maquillage

Oooh another fan of the Thermal Spring Water, yay! I love it… I’m really interested in trying the Exfolikate as well, glad to hear it’s a winner! And I really really want to try the Nuxe oil. Have heard only good things :)

    • Kate Flint

Definitely try out the ExfoliKate when you can! I think there is the regular one (as above) and then there is also an ‘Intensive Exfoliating Treatment’ which has an orange tube. I prefer the blue one pictured above :)
