Although it is the middle of Summer here in Australia, I have been gravitating towards dark, dramatic lipsticks. Maybe it’s because I tend to emulate the Northern Hemisphere..or maybe it’s just because I am longing for some cold weather after the massive heat wave in Australia! Regardless, here are my Top 5 Dark Lipsticks!
Revlon’s most coveted shade in the US is Black Cherry, and for good reason! It is a dark, beautiful berry-wine coloured lipstick that is a buildable colour. You can start as a light berry-coloured stain, or work your way up to a dark, vampy lip! I love it quite a lot, and have been wearing it often in January. It has a creme finish and like most dark lipsticks does take a little maintenance to keep it looking good throughout the day.
Another Revlon dark, vampy lip I have been wearing often (this one is available in Australia!) is Wine with Everything. As the name suggests, this lipstick is like a fine red wine, perfect for a romantic evening. I feel like this is a colour that would have been popular in the 1950s, as it has that elegant vibe emitting from it.
It’s not just the name of this collection that attracts me (although, it’s a pretty great choice) but also the amazing dark lipsticks available. Shade 04 is a deep, purple shade with blue-ish undertones. It really reminds me of a dark, eggplant purple colour. It’s a satin finish, so it’s not quite as creamy as the Revlon Super Lustrous lipsticks, but not quite a matte finish. It’s a nice alternative to black lipstick as well if you are so inclined.
Another from Rimmel’s Kate Collection that I love is the Shade 107, which is famous as Zoella’s favourite lipstick in 2012. It’s described as a deep berry-red colour, with a matte finish. I featured this in one of my earliest posts here on The Minted Beauty, showcasing my favourite Winter Lip Products. Whipping this one out outside of Winter/Fall makes me appreciate it’s versatility as well! It can be a little drying on my lips so I always ensure to moisturise my lips before and after use.
Fantasy Makers (from the Creators of Wet ‘n’ Wild) Black Lipstick
It takes a brave soul to wear black lipstick. I only bought this lipstick for about $2 from Cosmetics Plus and I am actually pretty impressed with it! With black lipstick, you need to ensure the smoothest and sharpest edge to your lips. It can go wrong very quickly otherwise! I haven’t yet found the perfect black lip liner, but when i do I will let you all know! I currently line my lips with the creamiest black eyeliner I own (Klara) and apply this with a lip brush.
Do you find yourself tearing away from current seasonal trends, and just wearing what you feel like? What is your go-to dramatic lip?
