REVIEW: Kate Somerville | Blemish Banishers

P1100371

I featured the Kate Somerville Blemish Banishers (RRP $55.00) pack in my latest haul video which you can watch here if you are interested! I picked up this pack from Mecca Cosmetica, which stocks some great high-end products that Australians normally struggle to find elsewhere. I had seen Elle Fowler use Kate Somerville products so I was pretty interested to see if they lived up to the hype surrounding them. Also, considering their price, it was quite an investment (for me!) to spend on skin care.

What Kate Somerville says

Attack existing blemishes and help prevent future breakouts with the four targeted treatments in the Blemish Banisher Kit that work overtime to uncover a clear complexion!

What’s Included?

Because this is a kit I am reviewing, I thought I better also include what is actually within the kit! Each specific product is going to be reviewed and also the kit as a whole :)

  • Detox Daily Cleanser - RRP $32.00
  • ExfoliKate Acne Clearing Exfoliating Acne Treatment - RRP $65.00
  • Oil Free Moisturiser - RRP $65.00
  • EradiKate - RRP $22.00

Packaging

The actual packaging of the full kit is a cardboard box with a plastic insert to keep items separate from banging into each other. I disposed of the packaging soon after I opened it because it’s easier to just put them into my skin care drawer in my bathroom.

P1100373

The Detox Daily Cleanser is in a tube with a twist top lid. I found this lid quite ingenious, as I am forever dropping and losing lids to various products. This is all nice and attached!

P1100374

The ExfoliKate Acne Clearing Exfoliating Treatment is a slightly smaller packaging with a regular snap lid on the squeeze tube. I like the cute addition of the winking smiley face ;)

P1100377

The Oil Free Moisturiser comes in a small, screw top tub. I don’t particularly like the tub because I am pretty conscious of spreading bacteria around. Best to use this one immediately after the other treatments.

Lastly, the spot treatment EradiKate comes in a small, glass bottle with a screw top lid. This one I believe needs to be kept in glass as it is quite a strong chemical. Can’t fault them on being safe now can we?

Formulas

The Detox Daily Cleanser is a yellow gel liquid with a slight citric scent to it. It promises to wash away the debris of the day, brighten skin tone, prevent over-drying of skin and remove impurities.

ExfoliKate Acne Clearing Exfoliating Treatment contains fruit enzymes and jojoba beads to rejuvenate skin, and also contains salicylic acid to prevent future break outs.

Kate Somerville’s Oil Free Moisturiser is a lightweight cream which absorbs quickly into the skin. It contains amino acid derivatives, red marine algae, algae based tighteners and oil absorbing spheres.

EradiKate is a strong acne treatment which contains sulphur, AHAs and zinc oxide. Unfortunately this product isn’t able to be shipped due to the nature of the product.

Price

The actual cost of this kit is good value considering the price of the products each separately. They are slightly smaller products (think deluxe sized samples) but there is definitely a good amount of product to test it to see if these are suited to your skin needs.

Results

After using the products for around 4 weeks, I’ve found a definitive improvement in my skin. I still have the ocassional spot thanks to hormonal womanly issues (hmph!) and my scarring is still fairly evident. I am interested in seeing if extended usage of the products (especially the cleanser and moisturiser) will help with my acne scarring.

Additional Thoughts

I cannot speak highly enough of the cleanser and moisturiser. Both are amazing and suit my skin very well. The cleanser even has tea-tree oil in it (a pet hate of mine scent-wise) and I can’t smell it at all because the tangerine notes overpower it. It’s win-win!

I do find the ExfoliKate a little too rough for my skin type. Also, because I use the Clarisonic Mia 2, I rarely find a need for additional exfoliation.

The EradiKate can be very drying, so I try to use it only on new or ready-to-pop pimples. I like using La-Roche Posay as a healing product for pimples that are on the way out.

I hope you enjoyed this review, and that you got something out of it! Have you tried any Kate Somerville products?

Stay Minty!

  1. Awesome review! I haven’t heard a ton about Kate Somerville, only about Exfolikate and their goat milk moisturiser. This seems like a good set and it’s good to hear that it worked for you! Eradikate seems similar to the Mario Badescu drying lotion (I assume you apply them similarly?). Might have to look into it!
