REVIEW: Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick

P1100427

After seeing some amazing reviews on the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush, I thought I would share my thoughts on another amazing product by Hourglass. I picked up the Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick during my trip down to see one of my besties Stacey.

After much deliberation, I decided on Muse, a coral-red that screams Summer. I’m extremely happy with this product after having it in my collection for over a month. I wanted to share it with you guys straight away, but new it would be best to make sure I knew the in and outs of this product.

What Hourglass Says

A richly pigmented, silky smooth and velvety matte lip color that delivers extended wear without flaking or dryness.

Colour

I can’t not talk about the colour first up. It’s such a bright, almost-neon lip colour. It’s perfect for Spring or Summer, and would certainly warm up a cold Winter’s day. It’s a very warm toned orange-red, although more orange than red.

Formula

The Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick range in Hourglass are liquid lipsticks that dry to a second-skin matte finish lipstick. The colour glides on effortlessly and evenly. You could do with one coat of this product, although I prefer two coats with blotting in between. I find this is the best way to avoid streaks and ensure a long-lasting lip colour.

Application

The liquid lipstick has a doe foot applicator, with nothing special to report there. It applies to the lips smoothly and easily, with a little streaking on occasion. Hourglass recommends a drying time of 30 seconds to 1 minute. I blot immediately after application and add another layer, to ensure the smoothest and longest-staying lip colour possible.

Longevity

This lipstick boasts a 14 hour life span, which is a crazy long time. That’s essentially getting up in the morning and washing your face off at night. While I do find that this lipstick lasts a LONG time, I wouldn’t say 14 hours. I am one is not very careful with their makeup during the day, but it still lasted 10 hours. That’s through eating, drinking and yapping my way through the day. I did notice some patchiness and flaking towards 3pm (hour 7).

Price

As always, Australia has a major markup on makeup, so I purchased this from Mecca Cosmetica for $42.00. It retails in the US for $28, so it’s a fairly pricey lipstick by their account too. At the moment, as you all know I am saving money, I wouldn’t purchase another colour, purely because I need to whittle down my collection to a manageable travelling size. But when I am able to splurge and continue extending my collection, you better believe you will be seeing more of these!

Packaging

The packaging of this product is super sleek. It has a glass window so you can see the beautiful colour, and has a smooth, metallic brown lid and back. I like the compactness of this liquid lipstick, but I do wish it would stand up! I like to display my lip products and the fact that this one lies down is a bit sad for me.

Additional Thoughts

Overall I really like this product. I believe it is well worth the price tag. It’s super long wear and has a pretty nice colour selection available. It also happens to look super chic when you pull this baby out of your clutch (not that you’d really need to!).

Have you tried any of Hourglass’ products? Anything on your wish list?

Stay Minty!

Muse looks so lovely, it always catches my eye when I see these instore! Definitely out of my price range though :( but ten hours is certainly impressive!

Luckily I won this is a giveaway which I am ever thankful for because I love it SO much! Definitely worth the hype, the formula of the shadows is so nice and the shades are so versatile!
