I was so excited to try out the new Rimmel London 9-in-1 Matte BB Cream in Light* (RRP $16.95), and when it arrived on my doorstep I couldn’t resist trying it out the very next day! I’ve been a long-time lover of a lot of Rimmel London’s foundations, so I was pretty excited to try this one out as well!

What The Minted Beauty Says

First off, this smells exactly like the Wake Me Up Foundation. Ah-mazing. One of my favourite scents! I haven’t tried the regular Rimmel London BB Cream as yet, but the 9-in-1 benefits remain the same:

  • primes
  • moisturises
  • minimises pores
  • conceals
  • covers
  • smoothes
  • mattifies
  • brightens
  • protects

Like a lot of other BB Creams, this only comes in three shades: light, medium and deep. I chose to go with light, which is pretty much the perfect colour. I am not sure how this will go on super pale gals, but for my skin tone it works pretty well. The coverage is fairly good for a BB Cream, but still on the lighter side. It comes in a squeeze tube very similar to the Rimmel London Stay Matte Foundation and has a matte finish on the product (how fitting!)

After two weeks of use, I have to say I am thoroughly impressed with what this BB Cream delivers! It’s not cakey, and not quite as ‘matte’ as the Rimmel London Stay Matte Foundation, but still keeps my face mattified throughout the day. I would probably hesitate in calling this a matte BB Cream. It is more of a demi-matte in my opinion. I think it applies easiest with fingers as opposed to a sponge or brush.

The only real issue I have with this product is the lack of shades available. The lightest shade suits me (just) but would be way too dark for pale skinned girls. On the other spectrum, I can imagine finding darker shades suitable would be hard as well. I think Rimmel is an awesome company and they make amazing products, but they do need to put a little more effort into catering for all the amazing chicks out there too!

Have you tried this Matte BB Cream? What were your thoughts?

I tried the little sample sachet they sent out and have to say I was pretty impressed as well! I quite liked the finish and lasting power, medium seemed to be a good match for me but I would agree that they need more shades!

I got that sample too, but I had tested medium in the store and it was too dark for my skin tone (unless maybe I was fake tanning). I gave it to a girl at work and she is loving it :) But yes, there are very few brands that really have a full range of colours which is disappointing.

I’m a big fan of Rimmel products. I tried the sample they sent me but it was a little too orange toned for me. They did send the medium shade though (which normally is what I go for) so I might go have a swatch of the lighter shade to see if it’s a better colour match. I quite liked it apart from the colour!

Definitely try the light shade, it’s not what I would call ‘light’, probably close to a sand beige or one tone darker than a ‘true ivory’ colour in the Rimmel foundations. :)

I got a sample of this and I loved it. I use the Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation at the moment but I am planning to purchase the full size of this as it doesn’t make my face as shiny as the Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation.

I used the Wake Me up foundation for a solid four months last year and loved it! But I agree, I always had to make sure I set it really well with a powder to avoid shine. This one has the great scent, a little less coverage and much less shine :) Thanks for commenting! Xo

I love that it’s a 9 in 1, that sounds perfect to me!

It’s one of the best BB Creams I’ve tried, next to Skin79 BB Cream.

I’m always wary of “western” bb-creams. I usually find they don’t go light enough for my fair complexion. Is light the lightest shade?

Hey Ellen :) this is the lightest shade. It is probably too dark for you (which is really annoying!) My favourite BB cream for lighter skin is Skin79 BB Cream - I used the orange one and it was fantastic for when my skin is paler. :)

haha always the way! I have got the Skin 79 BB cream in the Pink and gold, but I have to say my favourite is the Jane Iredale Glow Time BB. Fantastic Coverage and a lovely dewy finish. I highly recommend it :) x

I’ll have to check that one out, thanks Ellen!
