KATE Middleton and Prince William are expecting their third child in April, but speculation has been rife that they are not just expecting one. If so, what has Prince William’s reaction been?

Kensington Palace announced that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting their third child in September 2017.In October the palace shared that Kate is due in April 2018, and the nation could not be more excited.Since then, speculations about gender, names and due dates have been swirling. One rumour which has received prominence is that Kate is carrying twins. If this is the case Prince George, 4 and Princess Charlotte, 2, would have not one, but two brand new siblings.

Are Kate and William having twins?

Rumours of Kate being pregnant with twins started circulating after a “palace insider” told Life & Style magazine that the family know the gender – and are expecting twins. The unnamed source revealed that the Duke and Duchess will be having two girls. The source said: “The twins will sleep in separate bedrooms but will share a playroom with George and Charlotte.“Kate feels that it’s important for her eldest two to bond with the newborns.”Since then a number of other sources popped up claiming to know that Kate is pregnant with twins.Kensington Palace was quick to point to the wording of their statement. The announcement said: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to confirm they are expecting a baby in April 2018.”The use of the word “baby” in singular is unlikely to be a coincidence. Also, Prince William’s reaction to the prospect of having twins is telling in itself – unless he was trying to throw everyone off the scent.

What was Prince Williams’ reaction?

Prince William has jokingly admitted he could not cope with having twins.

When William attended the Centrepoint Awards last week conversation quickly turned to babies.

The Duke of Cambridge told Raymond Stoner, boss of Anston Properties: “Our third child is due in April, I’m getting as much sleep as I can.”

When Mr Stoner suggested he could save time by having twins, William replied: “Twins? I think my mental health would be tested with twins.

“Two is fine, I don’t know how I’m going to cope with three, I’m going to be permanently tired.”

Rumours of having twins is not new territory to the Duke and Duchess.

In September 2011 – while pregnant with Prince George – excited Brits speculated that Kate was pregnant with twins.

Kensington Palace released a statement at the time: “Suffice to say that were it true, it would be us that announces it, not a gossip magazine.”

In January 2013 the same rumour surfaced again – while she was carrying Princess Charlotte.

Again, Kensington Palace denied the rumours in a statement referring to the act that the couple are expecting “a baby”, not “babies”.
