So you may have read my New on the Desk post last week, which was my new purchases in skincare and hair care. Now it’s time for the main contender - new makeups! As always I’ve been a little naughty and bought some things that I couldn’t resist. Whoopsie. One day I will learn to control myself, but it is not this day.
First up was a Cherry Culture order with some great new NYX purchases! Some of these have been on my wish list for a while, including NYX Taupe Blush (RRP $9.95), which is a light-brown toned blush that is great for contouring! I first heard about this from Miss Melissa Em on YouTube (be sure to check her out if you haven’t already - she is a sweetheart!)
I was in need of a new face primer, so I picked up NYX Studio Perfect Primer (RRP $19.95), which is apparently a close dupe to the best selling Smashbox counterpart. I can’t vouch for dupe-ness, but it’s definitely a great product! Very smoothing without the overly silicone-y feel that a lot of primers have these days.
I have been eyeing the NYX Butter Lipsticks (RRP $9.95) for some time, so of course I needed to grab a purple shade. Hunk is an electric purple that is so moisturing that you would step over your own mother just to get one! (I’m kidding guys - any Simpson fans?). I also ended up purchasing two new NYX Butter Glosses (RRP $9.95) in Peach Cobbler and Devil’s Food Cake. I swear can they not make their lip glosses sound so delicious? It’s so hard not to buy them -_-
The butter glosses are just as wonderful as my original purchase Strawberry Parfait. They aren’t sticky, provide some colour pay off, and last surprisingly well for a lip gloss. I am really loving both of the shades too - Devil’s Food Cake pairs up nicely with my Butter Lipstick in Hunk.
I also purchased NYX Studio Liquid Liner (RRP $9.95) in Extreme Blue. I’ve only used this blue liner once but it was quite fun to wear and it is one of the better coloured liners I’ve used. Definitely worth a look if you don’t want to spend the extra dosh on the Lime Crime coloured liners.
Lastly, I wanted to try a high coverage concealer. I came across the NYX Full Coverage Concealer Jar (RRP $9.95), and it’s been amazing! It’s great for layering and doesn’t look cakey on the skin. I did a mini review of sorts in my Concealer 101 post in case you are interested!
I was also lucky enough to receive some of the new releases from the Rimmel London Rita Ora collection. The Lasting Finish Colour Rush Lip Crayon* (RRP $12.95) in Give Me a Cuddle* is a lovely, peachy coral that I am going to be wearing to death in Spring this year. With all the new lip crayons saturating the market, it’s easy to write this one off. But it’s definitely comparable to the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balms, but with a pleasant vanilla scent instead of the mint scent associated with Revlon.
I also received the Rimmel London 60 second Rita Ora Nail Polish* (RRP $7.95) in Breakfast in Bed, which I am dying over. It’s such a creamy, gorgeous light mint and it’s one of my new favourite mint nail polishes (I have a few - I think I counted six?).
Another drugstore purchase was the Maybelline The Falsies Big Eyes Volum Xpress Mascara (RRP $19.95) & Dual Eyeliner (RRP $11.95). I have really been enjoying the bottom lash mascara wand, as well as the eyeliner (which has been super handy to have the white and black ends) but I am quite disappointed in the top mascara wand and formula. More to come on this one, more testing required!
Next up is the Benefit Instant Brow Pencil (RRP $20) in Medium, which is the best for creating a strong brow look. Expect a full review on this one soon!
Last but not least, I have the Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy (RRP $19.95) in Card Shark, and the Diamond Top Coat. These lasted a messy day at the races, but you will have to wait for a full review!
