The festive season calls for a red lip, hands down. I always love donning a bright mouth for December to help get me in the spirit. I love doing Top 5s, and I love red lipsticks, so this one has been a long time coming Make it like Gwen Stefani or Taylor Swift, and rock that red gurl!
First up is MAC Matte Lipstick in Russian Red (RRP $36.00) which I have spoken about numerous times here on this blog. My perfect matte red lip starts with this. It’s a blue-toned red (making your teeth super duper white) and lasts pretty well for a matte lipstick. If you are after a gorgeous pin up red, this one is for you.
For a more dramatic red, MAC Matte Lipstick in Lady Danger (RRP $36.00) is an orange based red, and it’s an awesome, attention-grabbing lipstick. I do find I need to whiten my teeth before wearing this one because it does bring out the yellow tones in teeth. Beware fellow coffee drinkers! However, when worn with confidence and a freshly bleached tooth (ha!) you can feel super festive and quite frankly, a little bit fabulous.
Another fabulous red, which is ultra glossy and that perfect true red, is Rimmel London Apocalips Lip Lacquer in Big Bang (RRP $15.95). This red can be a little tricky to wear, but with the right lip liner (try Rimmel London 1000 Kisses Stay On Lip Liner in Cherry Kiss), it can be quite long lasting. The only issue I ever have is with smudging. Just be sure to keep your compact handy and your glossy red pout will remain for the majority of the day/night.
Whether you love the blue or red base lips, the Rimmel London Provocalips in Kiss Me You Fool* (RRP $17.95) range has something for you! I also personally love Play with Fire which is slightly darker than Russian Red. The best thing about this lip product is that it lasts ages and it’s kiss proof! Perfect for those sneaky Christmas smooches under the mistletoe.
My favourite super-matte-stay-all-night-and-probably-tomorrow-lip is the Australis Velourlips in NY-CEE (RRP $9.95) which also happens to be super affordable! A lot of people have issues with how these feel on the lips, but I don’t really mind the matte lip. A great tip is to make sure your lips are scrubbed (try LUSH Bubblegum Lip Scrub) and moisturised (try Tokyo Milk Black Lip Balm in Dark Noir) otherwise this lip product might just show up every little imperfection on your lips.
What is your favourite red lipstick?
