UPDATE: Reverse Hair Washing

On May 23, 2014 by Kate

Since our last instalment (Friday 16th May) I have only had to wash my hair twice. Twice in a week is a crazy thing for me, as I normally get oily roots very quickly. In a week I would probably wash my hair three to four times the regular way or use dry shampoo like crazy. I feel like this technique is not only saving me time and is less stressful on my hair, but it is also saving me product!

Also as a small side note, I also dip-dyed it blue, I’m in love!

It was only on the initial two washes that my hair felt straw-like when it was wet. Unless I’ve just gotten used to the feeling, it just feels like wet hair (although not as slick and moisturized as it normally feels). Once dry, it has more volume at the roots, while still remaining soft and manageable!

I am still uncertain of the exact science behind this technique. I’ve always been told that conditioner closes the cuticle of the hair. To ease my mind, I’ve been rinsing my hair with super cold water to ensure that my hair cuticle is closed and doesn’t frizz out all over the shop.

To be honest, I didn’t think I would like this technique of washing. It took me about a week to work up the courage (and also remember! When you’ve been reaching for shampoo first for the last 25 years it can be hard to get out of the habit). I recommend trying this technique at least once for a week. It might not work for your hair type, but there are no lasting effects of damage (that I have read about) and what have you got to lose?

Have you tried the Reverse Hair Washing Technique? How was your experience?

I’ve been thinking about trying this, but as I trained in hairdressing I just can’t understand it haha. I currently use Sulphate Free Shampoo and cut down from washing every second day to twice a week, so I think i’m willing to give this a go!

I was so hesitant too! It goes against everything I’ve learnt about hair care! Can’t argue with results though, hope it works for you! Xx

Sounds awesome, Kate! I agree.. there are no damage associated with this technique, so there really is no harm in trying but you have more to gain! Good to know it is doing well for your hair. I’d like to hear about it in the long term if it’s something that you would stick by! xo

I will definitely do an update in a couple of months. It’s something that is pretty easy to stick to and is so simple to try! :) Thanks for reading!
