REVIEW: Revlon Matte Balms & Revlon Lacquer Balms

While I was never a huge fan of the original Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains, I haven’t been able to get enough of the Revlon Matte Balms & Revlon Lacquer Balms since I tried them out.

In the Matte Balms, I have Shameless (a dark pink-toned purple), Striking (a warm red) and Audacious (a creamy coral). These three colours are all fantastic, with creamy pigmentation and a non-drying matte formula. They feel much more moisturising than other matte formula lip products, but still have that velvety-smooth texture. Shameless can be difficult to wear (as shown with only one layer of colour) as it can be hard to get even colour all over the lips. Striking is a lot sheerer than the others as well.

In the Lacquer Balms I have just two colours, but they are so gorgeous and I wasn’t really attracted to many of the other colours available. I have Whimsical (a purple-toned fuchsia) and Vivacious (a watermelon pink) .

These balms are all infused with triple complex Shea Butter, so I am guessing that’s pretty much the reason for their awesome quality. Like the original balms, they are in a crayon-like pen that twists up more product as you need. For longevity purposes, the balms do hold their own..unless you are eating or drinking. I recommend re-applying these after lunch!

Have you tried the Matte or Lacquer Balms? Which are your favourites?

I am so in love with the Revlon Matte & Lacquer balms! They are perfection. For the spring & soon to be summer I’m getting more into the lacquer balms though. Currently only have Vivacious & it’s so gorgeous. I also wanna try out Whimsical, looks very pretty from your swatch, I might have to go buy that pretty soon.

Whimsical was my first lacquer balm purchase and I have fallen in love with formula! Definitely check it out. It’s such a unique colour! :) Xo

I actually really loved these balms however the colours were simply not everyday friendly for me. great review xx

Thanks for commenting Stefanie! That’s fair enough, bright colours aren’t for everyone for everyday wear :) K xo

I have two of the matte balms in Standout and Mischievous. I love Standout but find it hard to get even coverage with Mischievous which is disappointing.

    • Kate Flint

I’ve been eyeing off Standout, it’s such a fab colour! That’s a real shame about Mischevious :( Audacious is similar (though I bit more vibrant/darker I think) and the coverage is the best out of the lot of them! It’s funny how they aren’t all consistent across the board.

I actually swatched both Audacious and Mischevious and meant to buy Audacious (because it’s darker and I already have something very similar to Mischevious). I got home and tried it on and realised I’d bought the wrong one :(

        • Kate Flint

Argh I hate when that happens! I did that recently with a necklace. Put down the wrong one and ended up with a different one! :( :(

  • Wonderlusting

LOVE LOVE LOVE them. I am not a lip crayon fan at all but these turned me! I’ve got Shameless and Striking. Looks like i need to check out the lacquers too.

    • Kate Flint

Definitely! I had no interest in the lacquer balms until I picked one up on a whim! :) Thanks for reading Xo K

I think they will be sticking around quite a while in my highly used makeup pieces as well! It’s Autumn here in Australia but I still love wearing brighter colours on dreary days :) K Xo

  • Tasha

I absolutely love the matte ones - I have Audacious and Complex. The Lacquer ones didn’t really appeal to me, I didn’t love the look of any of the shades, but Whimsical looks really nice!

I was really not interested in the lacquer ones until I bought Whimsical on a whim (lol wut) and fell in love! :) Complex looks gorgeous, like MLBB kind of colour :) K Xo
