Even though I am normally pretty brave with wearing crazy things in public, (hello? Pink hair!) I won’t be traipsing around in costumes constantly until Halloween. Alternatively, I’ll be using subtle ways to incorporate some cool spooky stuff into an everyday look.
Is anybody else super duper excited for Halloween?

The Sunshine Blogger Award

Anybody else just think of Chief Wiggum? Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows!

Hi everyone! I deeply apologise for the lack of posts as of late! I am currently moving my domain to a new blog website (don’t worry, website address and bloglovin’ subscriptions will all remain the same) and it’s becoming quite a lengthy process. It will mean a cleaner and better website for you (the readers) and hopefully something that is better suited to me! In the mean time, I have been nominated by Kammi from Beauty Book Blog for the Sunshine Blogger Award, so here is something to tide you over! (Also, if you feel like watching a video, head over to YouTube and watch my latest haul video!)

The Sunshine award is given to bloggers who are positive, inspiring, creative or whose blog you just really enjoy reading. Thank you so much to Kammi for nominating me, I am very flattered!

The rules are similar to that of the other awards:

  1. List 11 facts about yourself
  2. Answer the 11 questions from the blogger who nominated you
  3. Nominate 11 bloggers you feel deserve this award
  4. Write 11 questions for them to answer in their award post
  5. Let your 11 bloggers know you have nominated them

11 Facts About Me. This is getting tricky! There will be nothing left to know soon!

1. I didn’t start drinking coffee until I was 22. I fell in love and can’t start my day properly without a cup.

2. I’m a big project starter, but not a project finisher.

3. I rarely wear pants around the house. This can be embarrassing if someone knocks on the door!

4. A lot of my bones crack and click, especially my back, hips, ankles and neck.

5. I find nothing more satisfying than watching a compelling documentary.

6. I really hate using dessert sized spoons. One got caught in the roof of my mouth/teeth when I was younger. I always try to use teaspoons.

7.  I watch American Dad DAILY. I know, I know.

8. My favourite flowers are tulips.

9. I’ve always bought iPhones since their release and have never broken a screen.

10. Number nine was true until last night!

11. My favourite ice cream flavour is jaffa!

And now onto Kammi’s questions!

1. Is The Nightmare Before Christmas a Halloween or a Christmas film?!

I think it’s more of a Halloween film. I get the itch to watch it around this time of year.

2. What is your favourite time of days for reading blogs?

Probably from 7:30am to late.

3. How often do you blog?

Not as often as I would like! Having a full time job can get in the way. I would one day love to blog full time but it will take a lot of work to get to that stage!

4. What book are you currently reading?

I haven’t chosen a new book to begin reading yet. I have a lot on my list though.

5. If you had a super power, what would it be and why?

I would love to be able to stop time (including my aging) so I can sleep more. Silly I know, but I would seriously use it for that only!

6. What did you have for breakfast this morning? (Trying to think of new things for me to have but never have a clue!)

I had pancakes and orange juice, because it’s the weekend! :D

7. What is your favourite social media site?

Probably reddit, because it has something for everyone. I’ve learnt so much since I found it! Twitter is also amazing and I’ve met some amazing people via twitter.

8. What do you do about lighting issues for taking photos in the winter time?

I currently live in a climate where it’s pretty much fine all year round, but I use a studio light kit at the moment. I am looking for some daylight bulbs for a less stark light at the moment though.

9. What was the last pair of shoes you bought? (Feel free to add a photo into your post!)

Goodness I am not sure! I tend to buy shoes in bulk and then wear them out. It was probably a pair of black ballet flats for work. Boring!

10. Favourite perfume?

At the moment? Alien by Thierry Mulger. Of all time?  Madame by John Paul Gaultier.

11. Are you a morning person?

I am definitely more of a night owl.

Phew! OK now onto tagging 11 people to do this tag! No particular order!

1. Bubbles & Blush

2. Beauty Life Michelle

3. Born To Buy

4. Sweetaholic Beauty

5. Sparkle 2Day

6. Kitsch Snitch

7. Allure by Maddison

8. Tried & Tested

9. More Than Adored

10. Eat Paint Sniff Glue

11. misstango2

And now for the 11 questions that my nominees are invited to answer :)

1. What is your favourite magazine to read?

2. Would you prefer a kindle or a full bookcase of real books? (Or a bookcase of kindles hehehe)

3. Favourite holiday during the year?

4. Please share your most embarrassing fashion memory.

5. And your most embarrassing makeup/beauty/skincare memory.

6. If you could reach into the past, which product or clothing item (or whatever you like!) would you bring back to current day?

7. If you could only spend time on one social media outlet, which one would it be?

8. Do you remember your first nightmare (or dream)?

9. Your favourite lipstick of the moment.

10. How did you find The Minted Beauty?

11. If you had to eat the same food every day for a month, what meal would you choose?

Thanks so much to Kammi for tagging me! Hope everyone had an amazing weekend and I will try and upload so more posts this coming week!

Stay Minty!

Review: Revlon Sizzling Pink OR The Search for the Perfect Coral Lipstick

P1090923 P1090929P1090931As you may be aware, I am completely cuckoo for Spring. Scarily so. I want to wear a floral crown to work. I want to walk barefoot  and dance in the sun on lunch times. It’s silly, but refreshing. Something a little more normal acceptable that I have been obsessing over is coral lipstick. I am just IN LOVE with the look.

Now, with most beauty/fashion items, you need to find the perfect product FOR YOU. Different skin tones, tastes and needs all come into play here, so don’t be discouraged if you have a differing opinion to mine. That’s good! I would love some discussion on here if you agree or disagree with my choices :)  Moving on, after much swatching at the drugstore yesterday, I found one that I was really happy with.

Revlon Lasting Lipstick in Pink Sizzle is my current favourite coral colour. I chose this one over a lip crayon or lip butter, because I wanted a longer lasting pigmentation, without being too drying. I also steered away from the Vivids by Maybelline because that wasn’t the tone of coral I wanted. I think it’s not too pink, not too orange. Just the perfect mid range that I had in mind.

Pros

- Accessible

- Perfect mid-range between pink and orange.

- Not drying or sticky

- Fairly good lasting power for the average lipstick, about three hours before reapplication

Cons

- Expensive for a drugstore lipstick. Australian drugstore prices are outrageous

What do you think of this lipstick? Should I continue my search? Have I found the one?

Stay Minty!

Current Lusts #1

I am a huge visual person. I really love sites like Pinterest where you have mood boards and inspiring pictures, but I just don’t really like navigating through all those different social media outlets constantly. I would rather see it compiled into a blog post.

Here are some people, current trends, old trends, makeup and fashion looks that I have been loving lately.

Does anyone else love making moodboards as much as me?

Is anyone else a massive fan of American Horror Story? I certainly am, and tuned into the first episode of the third season “Coven”. It is, understandably, about witches. It REALLY makes me want to dress all in black and heap on the eyeliner for sure. Anyone else in love with Emma Roberts as well? My goodness. That gurl.

Macabre Monday #1 | The Conjuring

I thought I would start with something not so scary for my first post on Macabre Monday. A nice simple movie. What’s so scary about a movie, right? RIGHT?

Well the movie I am talking about today is The Conjuring. To give you an idea of how thrilling and spooky this movie was, take a look at this warning sign that was placed outside American theatres to warn viewers.

Yuuup. This pretty much sums up my experience! Although I didn’t go get myself blessed by a priest, I certainly took some care and peeked around corners for a few good days.

If you haven’t seen (or even heard) of The Conjuring, let me fill you in on one of the best supernatural movies of 2013. Seems pretty basic for a ghost story. Husband and wife team of paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren, work to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in their home. I won’t give any more of the movie away, because I think the best kinds of movies have the least amount of information given about them. However, to tantalise you, here is a trailer I pulled from YouTube.

The scariest thing for me about this movie is that, it’s real. I’m not talking “Ehrmagerd  Blair Witch Project, this is totally rearl.” I am talking absolutely, based on true events, real. Of course, I am sure that it’s not word for word, and some events were obviously dramatised.

But, Ed and Lorraine Warren are actual paranormal investigators that have investigated over 10,000 paranormal cases in the 20th Century. Ed, who passed away in 2006, and Lorraine had their own Occult Museum with many alleged possessed artifacts. I dare you to watch the following actual footage from Ed and Lorraine’s files. I’m sorry in advance!

I find the whole story of Ed and Lorraine Warren very fascinating. Were they legit paranormal investigators? Did they really help thousands of families and individuals across America overcome the presences that thrived in their homes? Or were they frauds out to make a quick buck. For all our sakes, I reaaaally hope it was the latter.

I hope you enjoyed the first Macabre Monday post! Let me know what you thought!

Presenting: Macabre Monday

Source Image

As you may have noticed in previous posts, or general ramblings on twitter, I am a huge fan of all things spooky. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t like being genuinely scared. But there is nothing I love more than a horror movie, book or spooky costume! I thought I would start a feature on here for like minded individuals who also love creepy stuff :) And, what better time than the spookiest month of the year, Halloween! I hope to be posting the first of Macabre Monday on the 14th October, so keep your peepers open! For the time being there will only be one of these posts per week. I don’t want to scare you off (hehe).

Some of the posts I am hoping to include in this feature will be book reviews, movie reviews (older classics, indie films as well as newer films), scary costume makeup (I’ve been dabbling in this a little!), spooky facts, scary stories and just general down right creepiness.

If you aren’t into these posts, that’s cool. I won’t be including anything too gory or scary if you happen to flick past, unless you click “read more”. I will be putting warnings in the title if anything gory or spooky will be included in the post, so click carefully! I will also include warnings of spoilers (if any) when reviewing films and books.

I hope there are other horror lovers out there who are as excited as I am! And for those who aren’t as interested in this sort of thing, don’t worry. There will still be an abundance of regular beauty, fashion and life posts as per usual :)

Stay Spooky Minters!

What I Broke My Spending Ban for…

I will begin by warning you, I didn’t purchase much - which I think is a good thing. My ‘giving in’ to my spending ban early, I feel like I avoided a huge haul of stuff that I will eventually not use, like some of my current collection.

P1090912

First, I went to Priceline and really behaved myself! I bought the L’Oreal Nude Magique CC Cream Anti-Dullness. I initally poo-pooed this CC Cream because omg another BB/CC/DD/etc Cream? Do I really need that? NOPE!

However, after more and more reviews came through my Bloglovin’ feed praising the trio of CC Creams available, I changed my tune. I love wearing my matte finish full coverage foundations at night, but during the day, I need something a little more forgiving. Concealer, of course, would still be essential. But I wanted something lighter for the warmer Spring months ahead. I had been using Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation which is lovely and light, but I still think it is classed as a medium coverage foundation.

CC in this instance stands for Colour Corrective. This cream in particular is the Anti-Dullness cream, and begins a lovely lilac shade. Once blended into your skin, it adjusts to your skin tone and blends seamlessly. Now, anyone who has bleached their hair blonde (or perhaps studied 10th Grade Art Class) will be familiar with the colour wheel.

The complementary colours to the primary colours ‘negate’ or neutralise each other. So when you have a huge, obnoxious pimple, a green concealer will mask it. Likewise, when you shampoo your hair with purple shampoo, it will neutralise the brassy yellow tones.

This CC Cream is purple, so it reduces the sallow, yellowing skin (gosh that sounds awful!) and brightens up your complexion instantly. I have worn this CC Cream every day since purchasing it and I have to say, it’s definitely worth the money. It is super easy to apply and blended beautifully into my skin. I used it with my L’Oreal Nude Magique Smoothing Primer and it lasted all day, with a little touch up of powder required as expected.

It may sound like I am an ambassador for L’Oreal but I swear this is not the case! (L’Oreal Gods, if you are listening, I would love to!) I just happen to really love their Nude Magique range. Like a lot.

I also purchased a dress, a shirt and a new pair of demin shorts from Jay Jays. There isn’t a great deal of clothes shopping available in my local shopping centre, but I fell in love with these pieces, and thought some new Spring duds would tide me over for a while.

P1090916

P1090917

The dress is a cloth white sleeved dress, with pretty lace detailing in some areas. This dress can be smarted up for the office, or dressed down to be great for a spring day in the sun. I may feature this in a post soon showcasing both ways. Comment down below if you are interested.

P1090914

I also bought a Navy Tie Dye T-shirt (super comfy!) and some pale denim cut offs. I haven’t bought a new pair of shorts in  a while and thought these would be great for covering up my swim suit when I go to the beach.

And that is all I bought! Not really haul worthy but hey, it’s something. And I am super happy with my little treat :) What have you purchased lately that you are in love with?
